Polyester and MUBI partner to launch body-horror film The Substance with a glamorous night at The Standard
Last night, global cinema platform MUBI and intersectional feminist publication Polyester kicked off Halloween week with a hauntingly glamorous launch event for the much-anticipated body-horror film The Substance at The Standard. The evening featured icons from London’s creative scene, including DJ sensation Bimini, nightlife legend Princess Julia, and favourites like Dakota Schiffer and Ashley Smith.
Starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, The Substance explores society’s obsession with youth and beauty through a chilling, thought-provoking lens. Polyester’s event production brought these themes to life, offering guests an experience that reflected the film’s unsettling aesthetic.
As part of a special collaboration with The Standard hotel guests will have the exclusive opportunity to stream The Substance in their rooms from 31 October through 10 November.
Ashley Smith hosted a Polyester x The Substance pub quiz, where horror fans tested their knowledge for a chance to win themed prizes. Guests enjoyed CÎROC vodka cocktails with edible eyeballs and popular Peckham-based TOAD Bakery’s ‘Monstro Elizasue’ cupcakes, complete with CÎROC injectables—a delicious nod to the film’s dark themes.
This cool collaboration between MUBI, Polyester, and The Standard set a high bar for Halloween festivities in London this week!
