Covent Garden's ‘Little Cloud World’ brings joy to London this summer
A new art installation by FriendsWithYou transforms Covent Garden this summer.
This summer, London’s Covent Garden will display Little Cloud World, a grand art installation by Los Angeles-based artists Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III, known as FriendsWithYou. Launching on 1 August and running until October, this installation features over 40 inflatable ‘floating’ clouds that transform the iconic Market Building into a captivating haven. Each cloud, over 4 feet tall, invites visitors to explore a 'happy place' filled with kindness and compassion, creating a sense of unity and joy. This marks Covent Garden's largest public art installation since 2021, reinforcing its reputation as a cultural pioneer in London.
The installation is part of a broader summer programme in Covent Garden, home to over 200 shops and 200 bars, restaurants, and cafes. Alongside Little Cloud World, visitors can enjoy a variety of events and experiences throughout the neighbourhood. Highlights include the Olympic Games screenings at the exclusive Olympic Terrace on the East Piazza, where guests can cheer on Team GB while enjoying a glass of Pol Roger. The vibrant streets and historic sites like Seven Dials and the world-famous Piazza will host immersive pop-ups and activities, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
Covent Garden's collaboration with FriendsWithYou continues its tradition of hosting remarkable public art, following works by renowned artists such as Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons. This year, the installation is also partnered with the charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), with donation stations and special retail items supporting suicide prevention efforts. Executive Director Michelle McGrath of Shaftesbury Capital emphasises the installation's goal to spread happiness and enhance the visitor experience.
Little Cloud World by FriendsWithYou is on display in Covent Garden until October 2024. coventgarden.london.
