Hayward Gallery unveils exciting series of free exhibitions with RC Foundation, Taiwan (R.O.C.), debuting multidisciplinary artist Naomi Rincón Gallardo's work in June.

The Hayward Gallery, in collaboration with the RC Foundation, Taiwan (R.O.C.), is set to unveil a series of free exhibitions at its HENI Project Space, showcasing the talents of promising international artists. This partnership underscores the Southbank Centre’s mission to amplify emerging voices and introduce fresh cultural narratives to diverse audiences.

Kicking off the RC Foundation Project Space Exhibition Series is Naomi Rincón Gallardo, hailing from Mexico. From 18 June - 1 September 2024, Rincón Gallardo will present Sonnet of Vermin (2022), a mesmerising exploration of decolonial feminism, queer colour theory, and Mexican science fiction. Through dreamlike 'counter-worlds,' the artist confronts the enduring legacy of colonialism, inviting viewers to ponder its contemporary implications.

This exhibition is curated by Assistant Curator Suzanna Petot, immerses viewers in a dystopian Oaxacan landscape, where mythical creatures navigate societal upheaval. From bats to scorpions, these beings communicate via radio signals, rallying for solidarity amidst adversity. Rincón Gallardo's collaborative approach, engaging musicians, performers, and artisans, represents her commitment to fostering community and collective resilience. With Mesoamerican deities at the forefront, her work champions themes of care and interconnectedness, envisioning a future rooted in shared joy and freedom.
The next two exhibitions in the RC Foundation Project Space Exhibition Series, presented with support from the RC Foundation, Taiwan (R.O.C.), will be announced later this year.
