HENI to present new paintings by Damien Hirst in an exhibition at Phillips London
HENI presents never-before-seen works from Damien Hirst at Phillips London this July 2023.
Discover the latest painting series by acclaimed artist Damien Hirst at Phillips' London galleries. Presented by HENI, the exhibition Where the Land Meets the Sea showcases a selection of Hirst's captivating artworks. For the first time ever, the Coast Paintings, Sea Paintings, and Seascapes series will be on view to the public from 20 July to 18 August 2023 at the Berkeley Square location, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the powerful connection between land and sea through Hirst's mesmerising compositions.
The Coast Paintings series takes inspiration from British seaside locations, where Hirst's abstract action paintings originated as grey canvases in his studio. As he worked on his acclaimed Cherry Blossoms series, the splatters of paint intended for the blossoms found their way onto these canvases, capturing the beauty of chance color combinations. In the Sea Paintings, Hirst freezes the power and energy of coastal storms in greyscale, while the Seascapes series adds additional layers of action through splattered paint, building upon photorealistic scenes from the Sea Paintings.
Hirst drew influence from Abstract Expressionism, particularly Robert Motherwell's Beside the Sea paintings series from the 1960s, for these three series. Additionally, his lifelong connection to the sea and his love for walking on the beach and observing the sea during the winter months influenced the creation of these works. Experience the profound visual and emotional impact of Hirst's exploration of the land-sea relationship in the exhibition Where the Land Meets the Sea.
