House of African Art (HAART) will present The Playground, a group exhibition which takes an in-depth look into the significance of childhood through the unique perspectives of five visual artists: Azael Langa, Lerato Motaung, Lindokuhle Khumalo, Olamide Ogunade, and Qhamanande Maswana. The exhibition will showcase new bodies of artwork by each artist alongside a programme of evening talks, live performances and live music.

A highlight from the exhibition programme includes a panel discussion with academics Teemu Toivainen and Peter Smith whose research focuses on the role of play in childhood development and creativity in childhood.

The Playground aims to transport attendees - both physically and metaphorically - into a new world: a world in which childhood memories, feelings and experiences can be relived and unpacked, and in which the boundary between fantasy and everyday reality is momentarily subverted.
