New Contemporaries to open at the ICA in 2025
New Contemporaries returns to the ICA in January 2025, showcasing 35 emerging UK artists.
The New Contemporaries annual exhibition will open at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London on 15 January 2025, featuring works by 35 early-career artists selected by Liz Johnson Artur, Permindar Kaur, and Amalia Pica. The artists selected for this yearโs exhibition are Motunrayo Akinola, Libby Bove, Max Boyla, Molly Burrows, Fergus Carmichael, Mya Cavner, Edith Liben, Karen David, Roo Dhissou, Beverley Duckworth, Georgia Dymock, Tom Fairlamb, Farzaneh Ghadyanloo, Sara Graรงa, Dageong Han, Siomha Harrington, Anna Howard, Fi Isidore, Asmaa Jama, Gouled Ahmed, Laura Kazaroff, AC Larsen, Sophie Lloyd, Hazel OโSullivan, Sun Oh, Sara Osman, Saul Pankhurst, Varshga Premarasa, Elliott Roy, Millie Shafiee, Sai Stephenson, Valentino Vannini, Joshua Whitaker, Danilo Zocatelli Cesco, and Yang Zou. Alongside being part of the exhibition, these artists will also gain access to mentoring, talks, and workshops through the Bridget Riley Artistsโ Development Programme.
The 2025 edition of New Contemporaries marks a return to the ICA, where it was first hosted from 1964 to 1986, and again in 1989, continuing its presentations into the 2010s. Founded in 1949, New Contemporaries has built a strong reputation for supporting emerging artists through mentoring, talks, and workshops. This exhibition kicks off a year-long celebration of New Contemporariesโ 75th anniversary, featuring โA Vision with Artistsโ, a programme that includes new commissions, residencies, and public events designed to empower artists.
After its run at the ICA, the exhibition will continue to tour across the UK, bringing innovative and thought-provoking work to a wider audience. Reflecting on the selection process, artist-selector Amalia Pica said, โIt was a true privilege to have such an overview of what artists in the UK are making today. I believe we ended up with a solid list and cannot wait to see all the works together.โ
