Tube and national rail strikes affecting travel in London in March 2023
London commuters are set to face significant disruption in the coming weeks, with multiple transport strikes planned.
Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) are scheduled to walk out on 16 and 18 March, as well as March 30 and April 1.
Tube Strikes
On Wednesday 15 March, tube drivers will also be walking out, with Transport for London warning that there will be “little or no service” on that day. Transport for London has advised that the Elizabeth line and London Overground will be much busier than usual, and that queuing systems may be implemented to manage the crowds. Although the overground and Elizabeth Line services will still be operational on Wednesday, the closure of Tube stations may mean that some services will be unable to stop at all stations or run to their normal destination, causing further disruption. On Thursday (16 March), TFL has said that Tube services will be recovering from the strike on Wednesday, so long delays are expected. They will also be impacted by the national rail strike on that day, which will create further delays on Friday.
Govia Thameslink Railway, has also stated that Thameslink, Great Northern and Southern will be affected on 16 and 18 March, with widespread disruption expected. The Dockland Light Railway and trams will be running as normal, as will London Buses, but all are expected to be extremely busy.
