Award-winning artist Little Simz to curate Tate Modern Late in August
An unforgettable night of art, music, and culture at Tate Modern Lates curated by Little Simz.
On the last Saturday of August, Tate Modern Lates will present a unique collaboration with the acclaimed rapper, singer, and actor Little Simz, who will curate an exclusive evening of music, conversations, workshops, and more. This one-of-a-kind event will offer visitors the opportunity to experience the gallery in a new light, as Simz designs the evening’s programme. Attendees will also have the rare chance to hear from the artist herself in a conversation with broadcaster Clara Amfo, where Simz will delve into her creative inspirations, her deep connection to visual art, and her love for London, the city that has shaped her artistry.
Each month, Tate Modern Lates provides a free evening of art, music, film, and cultural exchange, allowing like-minded individuals to gather in one of London's most iconic cultural venues. For this special edition, Little Simz will bring her unique perspective and energy to the event, curating a line-up that highlights London's vibrant creative scene and the diverse voices that influence her work. The programme will feature a range of activities, from dance workshops led by Simz’ choreographer Kloé Dean to DJ sets by some of the city's most exciting musical talents, including Tash LC, Keyrah, and others.
Throughout the evening, visitors can engage with a variety of artistic experiences. Visionary artist and stage designer Es Devlin will speak on her creative process, alongside novelist Caleb Azumah Nelson and painter Slawn. Attendees can also create their own art in workshops led by multidisciplinary artist Fiona Quadri and cartoonist Jadore Nicholas, or explore self-expression through poetry with writer Caroline Adeyemi. The Swatch Social space will be open all night, offering collective breathing and movement sessions with artist Elena Ooijman. Little Simz shared her enthusiasm for the event, saying, "It's going to be really special. I hope people feel inspired, uplifted, and moved by the experience."
Date: 31 August 2024. Time: 6pm - 9pm. Location: Tate Modern, Bankside, London SE1 9TG. tate.org.uk.
