Lina Iris Viktor: Some Are Born to Endless Night — Dark Matter at AUTOGRAPH
Where: Autograph ABP, Rivington Place
When: 13 September 2019 - 25 January 2020
Price: Free

Autograph ABP present the first solo exhibition of the British-Liberian artist Lina Iris Viktor. Featuring a collection that includes photography, paintings and sculptural installation created since 2015, with several pieces on display for the very first time. Viktor’s vibrant artwork queries cultural stereotypes and identity, exploring how African and Western mythology has worked to mould identity.

The exhibition was spread over two floors, with the ground floor gallery transformed to create a jungle effect from her works The Black Ark, a standing latticed structure with black painted foliage.
Visitors were able to walk through the latticed structure whilst observing her artwork dominated by deep black and luminous 24-karat gold from her captivating signature canvas artwork Constellations IX series and Dark Continent.

The first floor of the gallery featured a room painted an intense Majorelle blue with four fascinating works that feature Viktor as a series of different African figures that are the subject of admiration and appreciation.
#FLODown: This exhibition is a refreshing addition to London's Art exhibitions of 2020. Presenting a thought-provoking narrative through her bold and vibrant colours that is designed to challenge the audience perception. We look forward to seeing more of Viktor’s works in the Capital.
